What is Pho?

Phở (pronounced as fuh) is considered Vietnam's national dish, originating in the early 20th century in northern Vietnam. It is an aromatic & delicious Vietnamese soup consisting of broth, rice noodle, meat, and a side plate of fresh herbs to add as you please. The addition of these herbs & the sauces you see on the table are an essential part of eating pho and adds another dimension to the dish, tailoring it to your own personal taste.

Why does Pho matter?

Pho is so elemental to Vietnamese culture that people talk about it in terms of romantic relationships. Rice is the dutiful wife that you can rely on, we say. Pho is the flirty mistress that you slip away to visit.
